Complimentary resources

Learners will receive complimentary access to an online functional skills resource that hosts a range of engaging English materials to support learners, including initial assessments, tutorials and interactive learning resources. Please contact us at OSCAR-learning if you have any questions.

Using Calculators and Dictionaries during Covid-19

In line with government guidance, we have adjusted our policies on the use of calculators and dictionaries during Functional Skills exams.

It is now possible for learners to bring their own calculator or dictionary with them for a Functional Skills exam, in order to minimise contact with a communal item. However, Calculators must be basic with only four main functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Calculators with scientific or advanced functions are not permitted.

Please note that it is still permissible for learners to use calculators or dictionaries provided by OSCAR-learning.

Practice Examinations

Our practice examinations are available to support you in your preparation of the examination of functional skills and are available in both, paper based and on screen formats. On screen practice examinations help learners to familiarise themselves with the various features of the system such as how to navigate through the exam and text formatting options. Please note that on screen practice examinations are for familiarisation purposes only and responses cannot be saved. Therefore, if you would like your tutor to mark your responses, then the tutor must review your answers prior to finishing the examination.

If you should be unfortunate not to pass a resit can be taken for £50. Should you wish to cancel your test day once booked fees are applicable costing £60.

Results from online exams take up to 10 days to be notified, however paper exams can take up to 28 days for results.
